Colorado’s Colorful History

Colorado’s early history is filled with vibrant characters and events that shaped our present-day home, but many of the more colorful stories and people are seldom mentioned in history books. Author J.v.L. Bell will share some of the stories she researched while writing her book, like the Denver City Turkey War, why the Idaho Springs geyser influenced the discovery of gold in that area, and how Fairplay

got its name. She’ll share the stories of unusual characters like Mountain Charlie, a woman in the guise of a man who ran Denver City’s Mountain Boys Saloon, and Ned Wynkoop, the so-called “Bad Man from Kansas” who was an actor, sheriff, and a renown Major during the 1864 Indian Wars. Come join me for an hour of historical stories and learn something new about Colorado!
